Many of us who practice martial arts fantasize about starting our school someday. But have you ever pondered the actual requirements for organizing a class? Here are the top 7 items you need to start.
What Grade Should You Teach?
Each school will have a minimum grade requirement before you branch out with your class; not all schools require you to earn a black belt. You will have a goal to work for when you start your course if you ask your instructor what that grade is.
The best method for new students to respect you as a teacher, as a black belt carries a mystical aura to novices, is to earn your black belt before you decide to teach outside of your school.
Insurance
Teaching martial arts involves instructing students of all skill levels in a physically demanding and dangerous art. Accidents will happen, so prepare and safeguard yourself by purchasing the necessary insurance. Many service providers who can assist you with this can be found with a short google search.
A Training Facility
It would help if you had a place to hold your classes, even though it almost seems stupid to suggest it. Finding a space, paying for it, maintaining it when you use it, etc., are all required. Additionally, it’s crucial to check that your pupils can easily access it and that there is enough parking, among other things.
Students
Starting a class and relying on attendance is a dangerous tactic. Initial numbers will presumably be modest. It’s a good idea to invite classmates to join you so that any new students can observe others who have received training and won’t feel intimidated.
Nothing is worse than teaching a class and having a new student show up!
First Aid Knowledge
You are instructing in a risky art specified by the insurance. To be able to handle any minor occurrences, make sure your first aid training is current. Additionally, bring a first aid kit to every lesson.
Experience in Education
Gain teaching experience in your current class before beginning your new one. Please inquire with your instructor about taking a few lessons or leading a group of students through a method. When you go it alone, this experience and the advice from your instructor will be priceless.
Marketing
This adage “build it, and they will come” is untrue. In today’s world, advertising does not need to be expensive or even cost money!
